Consult Energy has launched its The Next 12 podcast series which places energy and utilities professionals in the spotlight to talk about their experiences of the market and what’s coming up in their worlds.
The Next 12 is the brainchild of Consult Energy’s Director of Operations, Richard Bartlett, who wanted to give something back to the energy and utilities community and create a space where those in the sector can share positive experiences and learnings. We sat down with Richard to find out more about what inspired The Next 12 podcast and what we can expect going forward.
Why did Consult start a podcast?
For many years I have been listening to podcasts and learning something new from each one. Sometimes I have listened to them to inspire me whilst running, others have saved me from making mistakes professionally and personally and others have just been for fun. Myself and the team at Consult have often turned to podcasts when we’ve needed something, so it made complete sense to start a podcast when we all had the opportunity to give something back.
Why ‘The Next 12’?
‘The Next 12’ was born from a desire to create a platform for optimism in the energy sector, we wanted to utilise the relationships that we had within the sector to give leaders an opportunity to pass on any advice on how they are dealing with what we are all going through. We know there will be leaders of tomorrow that now need to hear what the leaders of today have to say.
How does it work?
The format of ‘The Next 12’ is a very simple one, it is based around three areas; the first being what the guest is doing over the next 12 hours to get through each day, that may be a physical activity, a mental activity or anything else that helps them. We feel that listeners will gain some real insight into the guest from this and also hopefully give them some guidance around what they can do on a daily basis.
The second part of the podcast is asking the guest what they are planning to do over the next 12 weeks, this can cover a variety of subjects from personal projects like learning to play the guitar, professional projects that may be specific to their company or opportunities that going through the pandemic have created. For example on one podcast Lizzie Hieron spoke about the advances that Social Energy were able to make in the Australian market whilst the UK market hit the brakes.
The final section looks at what the guest feels will happen in the energy sector over the next 12 months, so far each answer has been totally different due to us targeting a variety of people that focus on different areas of the sector.
For me this is the best part of the podcast and the reason why we started producing it, our aim as mentioned is to breathe optimism into the sector. Now I can do this till the cows come home but hearing energy professionals talk about the positivity that they have for the future gives me the peace of mind that as a community we will survive this and then thrive.
All of the episodes to date can be found on Spotify or iTunes under Consult Energy: The Next 12.
