Consult Energy at Robert Llewellyn's Fully Charged Live

Consult Energy at Robert Llewellyn’s Fully Charged Live

The Consult team was lucky enough to attend Robert Llewellyn’s Fully Charged Live event last week. Director Kevin Tyler, Renewables specialist recruiter, Ashley Pitt, and Manager of Operations & Change, Joseph Hewitt all headed down to Farnborough International on Friday the 3rd of September for a day of electrifying content.

If you’re not familiar with Fully Charged, it’s essentially a celebration of all the most innovative products and services to hit the clean energy and electric vehicle market. Packed with talks and demos from movers and shakers in the industry, Fully Charged Live definitely delivered on its promise to leave us feeling invigorated and inspired as part of the clean energy revolution.

Our Director, Kevin Tyler, summed up his experience of the event really well:

“Fully Charged was such an exciting place to be, getting to hear about the innovative products being launched in the space was incredibly inspirational. It really cemented how proud we are to be working in this market and to get to be a part of major projects like Net Zero and electrification.

As always, it was a pleasure to catch up with a few friendly faces in the industry who we’ve had on our podcast such as RightCharge’s Charlie Cook and Niall Riddell from PAUA as well as meeting some new industry leaders like myenergi’s Jordan Brompton and Connected Kerb brand ambassador, Martin Offiah. An event like this was long overdue and we can’t wait for the next one.”

On the EV front, there was a host of major automotive manufacturers showcasing their electrified vehicle lines including Renault, Ford and Hyundai – a personal favourite of team Consult for their recent IONIQ 5 range. It wasn’t just cars that stole the show for us, the new electric trucks that have come out in recent years, such as the Volta Zero, are going to be a major gamechanger since they’re optimised for inner city logistics.

Once we’d had our fill of the impressive products on display, we headed to the lecture theatres to tune into some of the great industry talks on offer facilitated by Robert Llewellyn himself, TV’s Maddy Moate, Andy Torbet and many more. From addressing society’s reservations on full EV adoption to exploring new technologies like V2G, VTH & V2X, there was something for everybody and we certainly came away with a deeper appreciation for our sector. Some of our favourite talks from the day include…

How far ahead is Tesla and can it be caught?

Robert Llewellyn spearheaded the topic of EV frontrunners, Tesla, and how they’ve gotten so far ahead of the game. This was of course a celebration of Tesla’s wins in addition to a closer look at some of the other major players in the sector. The rapidly growing myenergi’s Co-founder and CMO, Jordan Brompton, was there to highlight some of their successes and what it’s like to get ahead in such an ever-changing industry.

What the FUD?

That stands for Fear, Uncertainty & Doubt to anyone unsure. This talk delved into what some of the key hesitancies are around EV adoption. It addressed the concerns people have about transitioning to EV such as range anxiety. Some of the most common apprehensions were put to rest thanks to a lot of great research from panellists Tom Callow from BP Pulse and Graeme Cooper from National Grid. In fact, stats showed people don’t actually need as much mileage as they think.

Scaling infrastructure for commercial EVs

A great panel discussion hosted by Jack Scarlett on how the success of electrification projects hinges on the adoption and scaling of commercial EV as opposed to solely on a consumer level. There was some really insightful discussion on the charging infrastructure and the network of public chargers available from Imogen Pierce of Arrival, Ian Johnstone from Osprey Charging and PAUA’s Niall Riddell.

When it comes to recruitment and how Fully Charged enriched our grasp on what our clients may need from us over the coming years, Renewable Energy Recruitment Consultant, Ashley Pitt had the following to say:

“Aside from Fully Charged being a really good experience and opportunity to meet all the faces behind the growing and innovative companies, it was also incredibly educational from a recruitment standpoint.

Seeing the types of projects our client base will be embarking on in the near future has highlighted the areas we need to focus on to help the industry achieve its climate change objectives. There’s going to be a huge demand for data and technology professionals to work on infrastructure and how insights are collected, engineering specialists to help build the products and of course, project managers to bring it all together. It’s a really exciting time and Consult is more than up for the challenge.”
